ECOLOGICAL ROADSIDES
Project Description
coLAB was contracted by The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center's Ecosystem Design Group to provide illustrative support for a large highway improvements project. Envisioning ecological roadsides that harbor with pollinators through habitat creation and landscape restoration offer Austin an viable alternative to traditional roadside treatments. The plant pallet has been tailored to promote soil stabilization and habitat restoration.
coLAB rendered axons to illustrate successful bank stabilization, bioswales for transporting stormwater, woodland preservation, and landscape restoration. Keynote plant species utilize deep root systems to maintain soil health. The root diagrams were created to illustrate the extensive root systems that are critical for soil stabilization. EDG proposes preserving woodlands after eradicating invasives. These typically sterile roadside will once again serve as vital habitats for native flora and fauna.
